Title: The Naturals
Author: Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Genre: Young Adult, Mystery
Rating: 5/5 STARS!!!!!!
Seventeen-year-old Cassie is a natural at reading people. Piecing together the tiniest details, she can tell you who you are and what you want. But it’s not a skill that she’s ever taken seriously. That is, until the FBI come knocking: they’ve begun a classified program that uses exceptional teenagers to crack infamous cold cases, and they need Cassie.
What Cassie doesn’t realize is that there’s more at risk than a few unsolved homicides—especially when she’s sent to live with a group of teens whose gifts are as unusual as her own. Sarcastic, privileged Michael has a knack for reading emotions, which he uses to get inside Cassie’s head—and under her skin. Brooding Dean shares Cassie’s gift for profiling, but keeps her at arm’s length.
Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms closer than Cassie could ever have imagined. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive.
Story Arc/Plot
Holy. Crap. THAT WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!
Criminal Minds with a touch of Psych. If that doesn’t persuade you to pick it up, I don’t know what will.
The story arc was beautiful, it starts out with the introduction to the program, then the need to solve a case, so it turns into quite the mystery. It flowed so perfectly, and I loved it!
The plot was SO AWESOMELY intricate. There are little tidbits of the murder’s perspective that add to the insane rush and darkness and mystery of the book.
Of course, there was just the right dose of humor to balance everything out.
Also, there was a Gilmore Girls reference, sooo….
Fast-paced, strong storyline, and an intricate plot, The Naturals has got it!
Writing
More on the simplistic side, which is absolutely perfect for a fast-paced story like this one. Though it was simplistic, I had a perfect image in my mind of every scene, which I LOVED!
Characters
EEK THEY WERE SO MUCH FUN!
The characters were so different and hilarious and perfectly distinct. There was a wide variety of personalities, so the interactions and dialogue were always hilarious.
I would HIGHLY recommend this book for people who love Criminal Minds, murder mysteries, and hilarious characters. Or if you don’t, still read it. JUST READ IT OKAY.
